It is possible...

...for one family to make a big difference in the issue of orphans! Friday night, we attended a fundraiser for some friends of ours that are adopting two siblings from Nicaragua. They had rented out the Grand Rapids Children's Museum and invited friends and family to come and play, share some food, and make bids on some silent auction items. For me, and I know for many others, it was so much more than that. Peoples lives were changed as dozens of families gathered to support our friends who are trying to make a difference in the world...and they are. We are all learning from eachother what it means to meet other peoples needs, in other words love, as Jesus called us to do.

There is a little boy in Africa who has lost both of his parents to HIV because they didn't have the resources to get medicine. And so he waits for someone to love him and value him. There is an infant girl in Nicaragua whose parents died of Malaria. And so she waits to be held in someone's arms and be told that she is beautiful and that everything will be okay.

We can do this...it is possible. Because every time we share our story someone else's eyes are more opened to what it means to love someone unlike ourselves.
