Gifts for Ayantu

How cool is this: There is a family in town leaving September 2nd to pick up their 10month old son from Ethiopia. We've never even met this family, but their son is at the same orphanage [Enat Alem] as our daughter. They are going to deliver her a package of gifts from us and take pictures and videos of her! I'm so excited!! We got a little backpack and filled it with some fun things: a little baby doll, two picture books, a finger puppet, 2 containers of playdoh, and a photo album of Brian, Sahara, Petey and I. We hope it brings a big smile to her face and lets her know that she is LOVED!

As you can see from the title of this post, our new daughter's name is Ayantu [Ah-yawn-tu]. This name was given to her from by birthmother and we love it. We are going to keep it for her first name. It means "beautiful flower". We're still working on a middle name...too many options!

We hope to get assigned a court date soon, but in the meantime there are plenty of things to do! Sahara's 5th Birthday is in two weeks, she starts Kindergarten this year, and checking items off of the list for Ethiopia!

Congratulations on your referral! I saw your email pop up on the "roll call" email on Yahoo and didn't realize you had a blog. Our daughter, Sarah Kalkidan, was at Enat Alem. She's been home since Jan '08 and is now 3 1/2. We live in Grand Rapids, too (near downtown). It will be fun to read about your journey now that I've found your blog. :)
